Gustafson, Alice (14 Feb 1910 - 18 NOV 1999)

Owen, Clark County, Wis. - Alice Eva Gustafson, 89, Colby, formerly of Owen, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at Walter's Adult Care, rural Curtiss, where she resided for the past six years.

Funeral services for Alice will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, 1999 at the United Church of Christ in Owen, with the Rev. Robert Everhard officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Withee.

Visitation will be at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, on Sunday, Nov. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Monday, at the United Church of Christ from 10 a.m. until service time.

The former Alice Thess was born on Feb. 14, 1910, in Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Dralla) Thess. She was a 1928 graduate of Owen High School and attended the Taylor County Normal School in Medford. She was a teacher in Lublin and Beehive School in Green Grove.

On Feb. 14, 1934, Alice and Hilmer Gustafson united in marriage in Neillsville. The young couple farmed in the town of Green Grove, and after Hilmer's death in 1969, Alice continued to live on the farm until entering Walter's Adult Care.

Alice was a member of the United Church of Christ in Owen and active in the Ladies Aid. She was president of the PTA at Beehive School. Alice enjoyed gardening, fishing and quilting in her younger years.

Her family, including two sons: Mannon (Marilyn) Gustafson and Franklin (Janalee) Gustafson, both of Colby, will miss her dearly.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Dale (Karen) Gustafson, Colby, Denise (Kevin) Boyer, Unity, Sherry Fitzel, Wausau, Roselie (Eugene) Voda, Maple Lake, Minn., and Lorne (Tracy) Gustafson, Mosinee, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilmer, in July 1969; two brothers: Fred Thess and Herbert Thess; five sisters: Edna Wordell, Bessie Brandt Abel, Clara Prepeluh, Eileen Goetz and Louisa Miller

Pallbearers are Dale Gustafson, Edgeen Voda, Carl Kallberg, Kevin Boyer, Lorne Gustafson and Ronald Hoffman.

Maurina Funeral Home of Owen assisted the family with arrangements.
