Slocum, Carrie (16 JUL 1860 - 24 OCT 1943)

Loyal, Clark County, Wis. - Mrs. Carrie H. Slocum, 83, a resident of Clark County since 1869, died at her home in Loyal about 1 a.m. Sunday as a result of a heart ailment with which she had suffered for years.

The body will lie in state at the Nichols Funeral Home until tomorrow, when it will be taken to her home. Rites will be conducted at the Methodist Church here on Wednesday afternoon following a short service at the home, the Rev. M. E. Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Beaver Cemetery.

Mrs. Slocum, nee Carrie McVean, was born in the town of Bangor, LaCrosse County, July 16, 1860, and, at the age of nine, came to Clark County with her parents, who took up a homestead in the town of Sherman.

She remained on the home farm until she married Ernest Slocum on April 7, 1897, at which time she went with her husband to his farm in the town of Beaver. The couple moved to Loyal in Dec. 1919, and Mr. Slocum died there Dec. 4, 1936.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Percy (Julia) Vincent, Loyal, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, Eugene McVean, Spencer, and Elmer McVean, Birchwood, and three sisters, Mrs. Marian Facklam, Spencer, and Misses Harriet and Annie McVean, who made their home with her here. Two daughters died in infancy and a brother of the deceased also died in 1922.
