Miss Kathleen Velasquez, daughter of Mrs. Darlene M. Buchanan, Withee, and George Velasquez was married November 5 to Kevin P. Schnabel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schnabel, Colby at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby.

The very Rev. Raymond J. Pedretti officiated at the ceremony.

Attending the bride were Miss Michelle Velasquez, New York, maid of honor; Maryjo Zschernitz of Marshfield, Laura Schmidt of Colby, Robin Schnabel of Abbotsford and Faye Ackert, Superior, bridesmaids; Nicole Schilling, miniature bride; and Pennie Garcia, Withee and Vanessa Schilling, Abbotsford, flower girls.

Daniel Schmidt, Colby, was best man. Groomsmen were Arnie Jagodzinski of Owen, Matt Brandt of Unity, Pat Phillips of Medford, and Mike Mueller, Abbotsford. Ring Bearer was Ryan Carpenter, Colby, and ushering were David Schmidt, Colby, and Jerry Mueller, Abbotsford.

Cheryl Sterzinger and Dennis Wibben sang and John Stuttgen was guitar accompanist.

The dinner and dance were at Trianon Ballroom, Athens.

The bride graduated this year from Colby High School and her husband from the same high school in 1981. He works for Abbyland processing. They plan to live in Colby.

ABBOTSFORD - Mrs. Clarence (Elsa E.) Gosse, 87, Route 1, Abbotsford died Sunday morning at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in Abbotsford.

Services will be Thursday at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford. The Rev. Daniel Ahrens will officiate. Burial will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.

The former Elsa E. Schueler was born July, 15, 1896 in the Town of Colby, to the late Mr. and Mrs. August (Augusta Greske) Schueler. She was married to Clarence Gosse on June 4, 1921 in Colby and lived most of her life at Route 1, Abbotsford. A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, Mrs. Gosse is survived by two sisters, Elfrieda and Minna Schueler, both of Abbotsford.

She was predeceased by her husband on April 1, 1980, and a son Maynard in 1946.

ABBOTSFORD - Saturday's Abbotsford Christmas Parade was a little more special for Lisa Archambo, who was chosen as the Abbotsford Snow Queen last week.

Archambo, daughter of Frank and Sharon Archambo of Abbotsford, rode in a sleigh pulled by two ponies. She was named the queen at the annual parade dance.

Terri Jo Wantlin was first runner-up, and Dawn Schwarze was named second runner-up. The contest is sponsored by the Abbotsford Business and Professional Women's Association. Archambo received a diamond necklace and gold pendant.

ABBOTSFORD - Mrs. Floyd (Mary) Treankler, 68, Abbotsford, died Monday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Services will be Friday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church , Abbotsford. The Rev. Emil A. Hodnik will officiate. Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford.

The former Mary Schraufnagel was born October 6, 1915 in the Town of Hull. She was married to Floyd Treankler June 27, 1933. The couple lived in the Stratford area several years, later moving to Wausau. In 1946 they purchased a farm at Abbotsford and have been there since. They observed their golden wedding anniversary this past June 27.

A member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Mrs. Treankler is survived by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Virginia) Stange of Abbotsford; a son, Dwight of Colby; Three brothers, Alphonse Schraufnagel and Cletus Schraufnagel, both of Colby and Arthur Schraufnagel of Neillsville; one sister, Martha Schraufnagel of Chicago; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother and a daughter, Darlyne Haralson, May 11, 1979.

Mr. and Mrs. Myron W. Williams Sr. of 3028 N. Popp Avenue announce the engagement of their daughter, Sheila Jean, to Donald R. Pohle II , son of Mrs. Barbara Roberts, Neillsville and Donald R. Pohle I of Milwaukee. Miss Williams graduated in 1982 from Marshfield Senior High School and in July as a nurse assistant from Mid-State Technical Institute-Marshfield. She works at Marshfield Convalescent Center and for Figi's Inc. Her fiance, an employee of Mills Fleet farm, attended Neillsville High School and also attended Mid-State Technical Institute, graduating in 1982. He serves with Detachment 1,32nd Engineer Company, National Guards at Neillsville. Their wedding is being planned for June 1986.

NEILLSVILLE - Mrs. Ralph (Erma A.) Alstot, 72, of 536 Court St., Neillsville, died Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Services will be Wednesday at United Methodist Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Howard Ott will officiate. Burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Gesche Funeral Home.

The former Erma A. Bohnsack was born March 11, 1911 in the Town of Weston, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry (Emma Froelich) Bohnsack, and received her education there and at the Neillsville High School.

She Worked at the Merchants Hotel for several years, and on June 11, 1931 in Neillsville was married to Ralph H. Alstot. They farmed in the Town of Weston until 1950, then moved to the city where they operated an egg business. Later they moved to the Town of Hewett. She had also been employed by the Memorial Hospital in Neillsville for many years.

After the death of her husband on April 17, 1973, she moved back to the city.

A member of United Methodist Church, Mrs. Alstot is survived by a stepsister, Mrs. Donald (Lucille) Kalsow of Neillsville.

Hernandez, Diane (7 April 1952 – 9 April 2023)

Diane Hernandez, age 71, went home to Jesus on April 9, 2023. In her last moments, she was with her son Tony Hernandez III and niece Aleta Miller. Her daughter Michele Flink, granddaughters Briana & Kyia, and sisters Susan & Debbie spent many sweet moments with her in her final days. Diane was surrounded by her loved ones and wonderful caretakers from Randolph Health Services in the two weeks she transitioned from this world to her heavenly home.

Diane was preceded in passing by her Husband, Tony Hernandez Jr., Mother, Frances Jeffery, Father, Joe Diaz, Brother, George Diaz, Brother-In-Law, Jerry Stillman, Nephew, Anthony Asuncion, her beloved pets, and other close family and friends.

Diane is survived by her sisters, Susan Asuncion of La Crosse, Debbie Stillman of San Antonio, TX, two children, Tony (Sheena) Hernandez of Fall River, Michele (Scott) Flink of Abbotsford, seven grandchildren, Kyia Hernandez of Milwaukee, Josh (Jessica) Jennings of Colfax, Briana Jennings of Rice Lake, Morgan (Jeffery) Schmit of Beaver Dam, Mason Hernandez of Columbus, Exandra Castner of Abbotsford, Marissa (Desiree) Becker of Pittsville, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 nephew, Scotty Stillman of San Antonio, TX, and 2 nieces, Aleta (Rand) Miller of Onalaska, Zena (Ted) Pelletier of San Antonio, TX, 3 great nieces, and 3 great nephews.

Diane was born in Chicago on April 7, 1952, and spent her early life exploring Chicago with her siblings and neighborhood friends. Concerts, forests, Chicago botanic gardens, and The Moody Church Sunday School were just a few of the places that captivated their time. In her late teens, she moved to Granton. Granton is where she & her husband raised their family and built a beautiful life together. She was proud to call Granton her home.

She worked for the Granton school district as a bus driver, Nelson Muffler, Short's Fur farm, Weather Shield, Avon, and Arby's throughout her life, where she made many lifelong friends. A few of her favorite things were cooking Mexican food for her loved ones, bowling, watching movies, and thrifting...she could always find a good deal.

She deeply loved and was very proud of her family and the vast life they all lived. She enjoyed watching and supporting her grandchildren as they grew up to be successful adults and found great joy in her great-grandchildren, never missing a moment to love on her babies.

In her later years, she enjoyed being a member of York Center United Methodist Church, volunteering at the Clark County Food Pantry, and working a few hours at Rodger's Grocery Store.
Diane will be greatly missed by all who touched her life. She was one of a kind and knew how to welcome and love people, no matter who they were or where they came from. If you were loved by Diane, you were blessed.

Funeral services for Diane will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 13, 2023, at York Center United Methodist Church in Granton, WI. Pastor Russell Francois will officiate. The burial will be in the Windfall Cemetery in Granton, WI. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the York Center United Methodist Church. Following the committal rites at the cemetery a lunch will be served in the basement of the York Center United Methodist Church.

Mauel, Amy LaVerna (6 May 1927 – 10 April 2023)

Amy LaVerna Ammentorp Mauel, age 95, of Owen, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, surrounded by her family under the tender care of Promedica Hospice.

Amy was born on May 6, 1927, on a farm south of Withee, to Evald & Caroline Ammentorp. She was baptized and confirmed at the Danish Lutheran Church in Withee. She attended Moody School and graduated from Withee High School in 1944. She then attended Eau Claire business school for one year where she learned secretarial skills including bookkeeping. Amy was married to Henry Mauel Jr. on June 2, 1950, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. They were active members of Holy Rosary for the rest of their lives. Henry and Amy were happily married for 61 years and blessed with 14 children. In 1957, they built their home in a new neighborhood in Owen. Amy lived in that home until her death on April 10, 2023, where she was surrounded by her children.

In 1960, Hank & Amy took over Mauel’s Dairy from his parents and built a new plant on Highway X. Amy took over the bookkeeping and worked from home until the youngest girls went to school. Amy was also active in the Parish Council of Catholic Women. She joined Bridge Club shortly after she married and played for the next 70 years. After the kids were older, she joined golf and bowling teams.

Amy’s priority was her family. As the middle child of a family of 7, she always enjoyed taking care of her younger brothers. As a Mom, she encouraged children to be involved in summer programs and activities. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and concerts and encouraged all her children to attend college or vocational school. She continued supporting her 25 grandchildren and attended all their special events. She loved cooking for everyone and spending holidays together.

Amy was proceeded in death by her husband Hank, her son Bob, her parents Evald & Caroline, her brother Roy (Marian) Ammentorp, Sisters: Ruth (Roger) Wolfram, Marian (Hank) Haas, her sisters-in-law: Shirley Ammentorp, and Barb Ammentorp.

She is survived by her children: Bill (Mary Kay) Mauel from Eagle Lake, MN, Pete (Terri) Mauel from Berlin, Tom Mauel from Owen, Carol (Les) Wickboldt from Clayton, Linda (John) Burgan from Grafton, Sue German from Marshfield, John Mauel from Owen, Jim Mauel from Owen, Ann (Kevin) Miner from Clear Lake, Mike (Karrie) Mauel from Kimberly, Mark Mauel from Green Bay, Nancy (Jeff) Taylor from Colfax, and Julie (Gerard) Bush from Scottsdale, AZ, Brothers: Ray, Jim, & Marvin (Ruth) Ammentorp, 25 Grandchildren, 40 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Promedic Hospice for their care and guidance. A very special Thank You to Sharon Laube Scheinost, and Barb Lehnen Issacs for their wonderful care. Amy was thankful for all her children and grandchildren who helped her stay in her own home until her death, especially John & Jim.

Grandchildren: Craig (Britt), Dan (Shayna), Nick (Ann Marie), Ellie (Kevin), Angie (Amos), Nathan (Megan), David (Jen), Aaron (Teresa), Christian (Hue), Josh (Jeanna), Gretchen (Hao), Brian (Kristy), Rachel (John), Lucas, Mitchel (Stephanie), Amber, Ben (Kaitlyn), Jared, Ross, Courtney, Katelyn, Gavin, Phil, Connor, & Ethan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 415 West Third Street, Owen, WI, with Father Stanislaus Michael Antony officiating. Interment is to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen the evening prior, Friday, April 14, 2023. The visitation on Friday will have a Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday and again on Saturday, April 15, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website.

Staab, Kenneth M. (25 July 1951 – 19 March 2023) With Flag

Kenneth M. Staab, age 71, passed away on March 19, 2023, at Colonial Center in Colby.

Ken was born on July 25, 1951, the son of Edward and Lillian (Bach) Staab at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. Ken grew up on his parent’s farm in Dorchester. He attended St. Louis Catholic School and graduated from Colby High School in 1969. After high school, Ken joined the Army National Guard of Wisconsin and was a staff sergeant with company D 724th Engineer Battalion. He was discharged on September 5, 1976, with an honorable discharge after serving six years.

Ken loved carpentry work and attended Chicago Technical College Architectural Drafting, American Estimating Institute, State of Wisconsin Apprenticeship, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, all with graduating Certificates. Ken lived most of his life in Marshfield. He owned Green Roof Investments and B&K Builders of Marshfield. Ken built many residential and commercial properties homes in the Marshfield area and many other locations in Wisconsin. He had a passion for building Historic Preservation projects. The Old City Hall on 2nd Street; Central State Bank on 3rd and Central; and the Purdy Building (now the Aster) were just three of his many historic projects. Ken had many acquaintances and had a chuckle always with his laugh. Ken enjoyed curling, card playing, fishing, hunting, camping, boating and watching the Green Bay Packers with his family and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ken was married to Georgia Behrens in 1980 and later divorced. Ken is survived by his children, Joseph and Jordan; his grandchild, Cameron; brothers and sisters: Phyllis Werner, Aaron (Donna) Staab, Diane (Tom) Poehnelt, Joyce (Fred) Fischer, Rosemary (Fred) Lewin, Jeff (Renee) Staab, Greg (Sandy) Staab, Patricia Staab; and sister-in-law, Susan Staab. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews. Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian Staab; his daughter, Bethany; five brothers: Dennis, Joseph, Daniel, Mark, and Gerard; and brother-in-law, Gerald Werner.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in Marshfield, Wisconsin on April 22, 2023.
A visitation for family and friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. A committal prayer will be held at 12:15 P.M., followed by Military Honor rites by American Legion Post #54 honor guard. A luncheon at the American Legion will be served after. Ken will be laid to rest then at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery that afternoon.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the Colonial Center in Colby, House Calls of Menomonie and St. Croix Hospice for providing Ken with excellent care; and the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home for their services. In lieu of flowers; Ken’s family will establish a Memorial in his name.
