Gladys was born Feb. 24, 1920, in Bremer County, Iowa, a daughter of the late Henry and Alma (Tegtmeier) Hoppenworth. The former Gladys Hoppenworth was united in marriage to Marvin E. Menger on Aug. 23, 1939, in Edgar. Marvin preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1977. Mrs. Menger assisted her husband in the operation of Menger's Repair and later Menger's IGA, both located in Chili. She then worked at S&K Dairy until the time of her retirement. Gladys was a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Chili and was currently president of the Ladies Aid.

Faith and family were the central part of Glady's life. She also took great pleasure in helping others whenever possible and thus helped many charities. Some of her other interests included reading and working puzzles.

She is lovingly survived by a son, James M. Menger, Prescott, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Matthew Marvin Menger and Amanda Jane Dunbar; three great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Dunbar, Austin Menger and Kelsey Vose; and one brother, Paulus (Dorothy) Hoppenworth, Edgar.
