Meland, Edward "Eddy" D. (16 Oct. 1934 - 2 May 2004)

NEILLSVILLE - Edward "Eddy" Meland, passed away in the arms of his wife, surrounded by his children, on Sunday, May 2, 2004.

Ed attended Madison East High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Ed was employed with Construction Supply, Dane County Highway Department and Payne and Dolan. He retired in 1992 when he and his wife, Vivian, moved up to their hunting land in Neillsville, where he loved spending time in the outdoors.

Ed is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vivian; his children, Richard (Rhonda) Meland of Kenosha, Mary (Timm) Smith of Stoughton, Nancy (Scot) Marsh of Dimondale, Mich., Sandra (Francisco) Castanon of Marshall, and Wendy (Bob Helgestad) of Marshall; a brother, Bruce; a sister, Delores (Jerome) Erickson; his grandchildren, Mellisa, Leslie, Ryan, Heather, Kasandra, Hailey, Hannah, Catalina and Gilberto; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Richard Ace; mother-in-law, Mary Urfer; other relatives and friends. Ed also welcomed into his home two more daughters, Christine and Tricia.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Elmer; his mother, Esther (nee Ledin); a brother, Victor; an aunt, Patty; and his dear friend, Maureen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave., Madison, with the Rev. Dick Halom officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service. T

he family would like to thank the nursing staff at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, as well as Dr. Timothy Meyer and Dr. Alex Hall, and Sue and Big Dave of the Marshland Hospice Agency. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to his neighbors, Carol, Tom and Dennis for helping out in our time of need, and a special thank you to Queta for your love and tender care.
