WAUNAKEE/ CURTISS, WIS. - Esther M. Peissig, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2004.

Esther was born on Dec. 28, 1916, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Magnus and Marie (Pedersen) Hauschildt. In her early youth the family moved to Withee, Wis., where Esther grew up on a farm with her brother and sister. She graduated as class valedictorian from Withee High School in 1934.

She married her husband, Pete Peissig, on Nov. 27, 1935, and shared 68 years of life together. The couple lived in Chippewa Falls and Curtiss while raising two children, Janet and Don. Besides being a homemaker Esther did office work at Sears in Chippewa Falls, the Laabs Cheese Company in Curtiss, and for the Packaging Corporation of America in Colby. During retirement the Peissig's spent winters in Texas, and moved to a retirement community near Waunakee in 1997. Esther was an excellent seamstress, cook and baker. She also enjoyed all sorts of arts and crafts. Esther was a member of Lakeview American Lutheran Church in Madison.

She is survived by her husband, Pete; a daughter, Janet (James) Neiderloh; a son, Don (Ruby) Peissig; four grandchildren, Karen Hazewinkel, Joel Peissig, Thomas Niederloh and Jinger (John) Schroeder; two great-granddaughters, Jessica Hazewinkel and Andia Niederloh; and a sister, Ann Nelson.

A memorial service will be held at LAKEVIEW AMERICAN LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Road, at 2 p.m., on Sunday, May 16, 2004, with her son-in-law, the Rev. James Niederloh, presiding.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials May be made to Lakeview American Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Curtiss.
