GEORGE C BERTEAU (7 Augl 1908 - 8 Feb 2003)

George Berteau, age 94, died at his home in Neillsville on Feb. 8, 2003. George was born Aug. 7, 1908. He lived in DePere until 1910. From 1910 to 1927 he lived in Watertown, WI.

He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the UW Law School in 1933. After graduation he worked in the office of the Attorney General.

During WWII he served with the Corps of Engineers. After the war, he practiced law in Racine and Kenosha specializing in Labor Law. For many years, he was a Mediation Judge with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.

George will be remembered for his leadership and dedication to the work of the Southeastern Wisconsin Planning Commission of which he was the Chairman from 1961 to 1982.

He moved to Neillsville in 1989 and retired shortly thereafter. He was a member of the Clark County Bar Association, the Neillsville Rotary Club and the Neillsville Country Club.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years Doris, and his son, John an attorney, in Sarasota, FL.

Following his wishes, there will be no service, nor memorial. The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting George’s family.
