IRVING STEVENSES, NEILLSVILLE, TO CELEBRATE ON THANKSGIVING DAY

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stevens will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day with a family dinner at the Stevenses home in Shortville, southeast of Neillsville.

On Saturday, Nov. 29, an open house celebration will be held for relatives, neighbors and other friends at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Urban, route 1, Neillsville, nine miles souteast of Neillsville.

Irving Stevens, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Stevens, and Gladys Winters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Winters, were married Nov. 26, 1919, in the Methodist parsonage in Neillsville. The Rev. Louis Coleman officiated at the marriage ceremony and attendants were Mrs. Charles Seif and Mrs. Louis Coleman.

The wedding was in the form of and elopement known only to the bride's mother. The 10 a.m. wedding was followed by the newlyweds taking the 11:30 a.m. train to Evansville. Upon their return, friends greeted them with a charivari.

Irving Stevens was born July 20, 1897, in Granton. He attended Shortville School and also served with the U. S. Army in World War I. Mr. Stevens served Washburn township on the Board of Supervisors.

Mrs. Stevens was born April 3, 1897, in the town of Washburn, southeast of Neillsville. At the age of six she moved to the Shortville Community Store which her parents operated for many years. The store now is operated by the Ragnar Mortensons.

Mrs. Stevens attended Shortville School and was graduated from Neillsville High School with the class of 1914. She was employed in her parents store prior to her marriage.

Mrs. Stevens enjoys her flower garden and knits, crochets and does other fancywork. She is a member of the Shortville Sunshine Club and the Washburn Homemakers Club.

Mr. Stevens, who has operated a dairy farm in Shortville, enjoys fishing and hunting, having gone deer hunting down to the present time. He also is recognized as a professional gardener.

The Stevenses are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Leland P. (Eileen) Dopp, Marshfield; Mrs. John (Ione) Urban, route 1, Neillsville; and Mrs. Wallace (Joanne) Krause, Menominee Falls. They have six grandchildren.

The sons-in-law and daughters with their children will attend the family golden anniversary dinner Thanksgiving Day and the open house Nov. 29, to be held at the Urban home. Mr. and Mrs. James Waller of Edgerton plan to attend the celebration also.
