I have been doing research on this family roughly 20 years. I had read excertps from the Beecher Herlad about Chili Selk's and just found out last year that fred Selk was a brother to my great grandfather, John Selk, whose wife was Emma (Voltmer) Selk. I never realy knew if my grandfather ever knew about cousins in Chili as we never talked about it back years ago. Now sadly,I wish I has started earlier. He also had an uncle on his mother's side in Fairmont,Minn. I have traced the family back to 1741 in Germany, but no further so far. I noticed in the `1900 census that George was listed as 10 years old. We found pictures in the Beecher Centennial booklet of the Heldt family that was a brother to Elizabeth Selk (married to Carl selk who came here in 1854). We were always hoping to find a Selk picture like that. They sure looked like the Amish of today. I have traveled a lot to Minnesota to visit relatives and hope someday to stop in Chili to check out church records and the County Clerk's office. If you could give me an address, I would certainly appreciate it for any churches or County clerk. Glad to find out there are more selk's around that are related.
