Witt, Erma Jeanette, (26 Feb. 1917 - 11 June 2005)

Erma Jeanette Witt, 88, of 2215 S. Maple Ave., passed away on June 11, 2005, at the House of The Dove with her family around her.

Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield, at 11 a.m. on Friday with Pastor Patricia Turner officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Granton. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Lenny Kleinschmidt, Andrew Goodman, Lance Kirk, Layne Kirk, Brett Kirk and Todd Mitchell. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters: Cheryl Gamroth, Teri Kleinschmidt, Deanna Witt and Amber Witt and grandsons, Creighton Knudsen and Kevin Witt.

Visitation will be at Hansen Funeral Home, 200 W. Third St., Marshfield, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Erma was born Feb. 26, 1917, at Wadena, Minn. to George and Annie Sophia (Olson) Gessner. She received her education at District 245 in Otter Tail County, Minn. After graduation she was employed as a housekeeper. Erma was married to Rudolph Witt on April 24, 1938. They farmed near Wadena until 1955, when they moved to Wisconsin where they farmed from 1955 until 1982. Upon retirement, they moved to Marshfield, where Erma resided until her death.

Erma was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a heart of gold and would have made everyone's world perfect if she could. Her family was the focal point of her life, and she was the center of theirs. Family gatherings and holidays were always a reunion of love and sharing. She was an avid Brewers and Packers fan, and all other conversation was "out of bounds" at "Granny's" House when a game was on.

Erma is survived by three daughters: Shirley (Ross) Knudsen of Homosassa, Fla., Dorothy Kirk of Hastings, Minn., and Carole (Robert) Salisbury of Marshfield; three sons: Wayne (Debbie) Witt of Marshfield, Kenneth (Debbie) Witt of Neillsville and Ronald (Patti) Witt of Marshfield; one sister: Norma Braden, of Paradise, Calif., 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

The family requests donations to the House of The Dove, 613 Western Ave., Marshfield, in lieu of flowers.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, in 1989, her parents, a daughter and a son, two grandsons, two sisters and three brothers.
