Goodwin, Irvin O. Jr. (1929 - 2003)

Greenville - Irvin O. Goodwin Jr., 74, of 407 Rainbow Drive, went home to be with his Savior, forever in the Presence of the Lord, on Thursday, July 31, 2003. He was the widower of Wilma Simmons Goodwin, who passed away Thursday, July 24, 2003.

Born in Loyal, Wis., he was a son of the late Irvin Orville and Alice Pearl Greene Goodwin, was a member of Living Praise Fellowship and helped his son organize several churches.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Lamar Gambrell, of Greenville, Darlene and Dale Chafin, of Greenville; three sons and their wives, Larry and Sandra Gossett, Danny Irvin and Melinda Goodwin, and the Rev. Tony Thomas and Debra Goodwin, all of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Pam, Melissa, Chad, Amie and Tyler, Sherry, Bo and R.D.; four great-grandchildren, Dawn, Christopher, Kimberly, and Haley; three sisters, Betty Pursley, of California, Pat Haworth, of Greenville, and Rachel Garrett, of Travelers Rest; two brothers, Ronnie Dodson, of Piedmont, and Grady Dodson, of Maryland; and a special friend, Tom Martin, of Greenville. He was predeceased by three grandchildren, Jamie Goodwin and Marsha and Michelle Helton.

Service: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest, with burial at Graceland Cemetery, West.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Greenville -- Wilma Simmons Goodwin, 76, of 407 Rainbow Drive, went home to be with her Lord, Savior and friend on Thursday, July 24, 2003.

Loving wife of Irvin Orville Goodwin Jr., she was born in Greenville, a daughter of the late Earl and Ollie Mote Simmons.

Mrs. Goodwin was a homemaker and was a member of Agnew Road Church of God. She helped organize several churches and helped her son organize Living Praise Fellowship, where she attended until her sickness.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Sandra Gossett, Danny and Melinda Goodwin and the Rev. Tony and Debra Goodwin, all of Greenville; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Lamar Gambrell and Darlene and Dale Chafin, both of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Pam, Melissa, Chad, Amie, Tyler, Sherry, R.D. and Bo and Janelle; four great-grandchildren, Dawn, Christopher, Kimberly and Haley; sisters, Jeanette Richardson and Doris Carlton; and a brother, Alvin Simmons.

She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Jamie Goodwin and Marsha and Michelle Helton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial at Graceland Cemetery, West.

Family members are at the residence.
