Mattes, Adolph (30 JUN 1831 - 20 DEC 1914)

Adolph Mattes, the aged father of Mrs. Wm. Gerhardt, died at her home on the south side of the city (Neillsville, Clark Co.) Dec. 20, 1914, aged 83. Deceased was born in Prussia, June 30, 1831; came to Wisconsin in 1855, and was married to Miss Verena Rusch in 1860. They lived at Kewaskum, Wis., about 35 years; a few years they lived in the copper region of Michigan and for a time in Minnesota. About three years ago Mr. Mattes became practically an invalid and he and his wife came to make their home with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gerhardt. He was a man of well character and stood high in the estimation of all who knew him. Besides his wife he leaves eight children to mourn his death.

The funeral was held at the Gerhardt home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. H.G. Schmid officiating.
