Kubat, Marie (14 JAN 1840 - 19 Jan 1915)

Mrs. Marie Kubat, one of Clark County’s oldest residents, died at her home in this city Jan. 19, 1915, aged 75 years and 5 days. Marie Vanek was born Jan. 14, 1840 at Tabor, Bohemia, grew to womanhood there and was married to John Kubat Feb. 8, 1869. They sailed to America in 1870, arriving at Baltimore, Md., June 18, 1870. They went to West Bend, Wis., where they lived till they moved to Clark County in March 1883. They settled on a tract of timber land in York, and there underwent the trials of pioneer life. There Mr. Kubat died, and after living some years on the farm, she moved to Neillsville to make her home. Of their eight children, two are deceased. Marie died at West Bend in 1879; Anna, a Franciscan sister, died at La Crosse Feb. 14, 1904. Six sons are living: Frank and John in York, Joseph at New Lisbon, Anton at Portland Ore. William at Marshall, Wis. and Edward at Kansas City, Mo.

Mrs. Kubat possessed all the virtues of a Christian wife and mother, teaching by precept and example the ways of the better things of life and giving to her home and family the best of her strength and thoughtful care.

The funeral will be held today, Thursday, at 10 o’clock at the Catholic Church.
