Behrens, Alice C. (10 JAN 1913 - 21 DEC 2002)

Alice C. Behrens, 89, Casper, Wyo., died on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Poplar Living Center, Casper. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 23, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Casper. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Alice C. Dahl was born on Jan. 10, 1913, in Montfort, to Albert and Mabel Dahl. She moved as a child with her family to Greenwood. She received her education there and graduated from Greenwood High School. She moved to Chicago and enrolled in the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital nursing program, graduating in 1933. She was hired by Chicago Cubs baseball player Stan Hack to care for his two children. She married Bernard "Louie" Behrens in Greenwood on Feb. 14, 1937. She worked as a staff nurse at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, and was the first director of nursing at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville, where she developed the nursing, pharmacy and dietary departments. She taught a nursing assistant course at an Eau Claire technical college. She retired from nursing in 1973 and became active in community and church volunteer work. She and her husband moved to Casper in 1988. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Wild Bunch and the Mary Martha Circle. She was a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she remained at home until 1997, when she moved to the Garden Square Assisted Living Center, and then to the Poplar Living Center.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Jerome (Mary) Behrens, Casper; one daughter, Cheryl (Kent) Wrasper, Casper; four grandchildren, Kelly Behrens-Sandin, Denver, Colo., Michael Behrens, Steamboat Springs, Colo., Ingrid Behrens-Laitinen, Ft. Collins, Colo., and Alison Wrasper, Casper; and one great-grandson, Erik Sandin, Denver, Colo.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Louie, in 1992; and her parents.

Bustard’s Funeral Home, Casper, assisted the family with arrangements.
