Strathmann, Harold (21 Feb 1922 - 31 Dec 2002)

Harold "Harry" Strathmann, 80, Colby, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. The Rev. Mark Neumann officiated. Burial was in Colby Memorial Cemetery, town of Colby. Military rites were conducted by Colby VFW Post 2227.

Harold Strathmann was born on Feb. 21, 1922, in Colby, to Herman and Anna (nee Lindner) Strathmann. He attended Zion Lutheran School and Colby High School. He married Irene Dommer on June 29, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the Philippines. He worked for Strathmann Brothers Painting from 1957-89 and for Strathmann Decorating until the time of his death. He was a volunteer fireman for the Colby Fire Department from 1955-82. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher, and a charter and lifetime member of Huber-Decker-Bruesewitz-Schmitt VFW Post 2227, Colby.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, Colby; one son, David (Michelle) Strathmann, Colby; four grandchildren, Kimberly Strathmann, Curtiss, Melissa Strathmann, Chandler, Ariz., Lynette Strathmann, Spencer, and Nadine Strathmann, Colby; one great-granddaughter, Courtney; and two brothers, Arnold Strathmann, Colby, and Edward (Ila) Strathmann, Colby.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one sister, Margaret "Peg" Zellmer.

Community Funeral Home, Colby, assisted the family with arrangements.
