SCHLINSOG, STEVE (HERMAN AND LOUISE SCHLINSOG FARM)

Lillian (Schlinsog) Zahnow tells about the farm. "My dad bought the farm in 1898 or so, and batching it and hiring help (woodcutters) cleared land. It was the old Sutherland farm. Mr. Sutherland was killed by a halt of lightning one Sunday afternoon as she went down to the cellar for a jar of sauce. We, Lillian and Hans Heimke bought the farm in 1945, but as we moved, Steve (my nephew) wanted it, so he got it from Schmitz, who lived there only a short time."

She also tells about the Romadka railroad. "There stood a little red, square depot near the track and the road where the trains stopped. As I was two years old, my folks, Herman and Louise, with me got on the train there (perhaps only one passenger car or caboose where we rode) and perhaps we changed trains somewhere, but we went to the State Fair in Milwaukee! (iypsies camped at Romadka every summer and stole their food."

I think John Kintzele had the first auto (a red ,.)ne--1908 Ford) and in it, Ma and us kids had our first ride to Granton as he picked us up when he caught up with our lumber wagon and the horses Ila drove. We thought we were in town a long time before Pa got there! All pleasant memories!
