Ritchie, William C. (2 SEP 1855 - 15 MAR 1918)

William Carjan Ritchie, of the town of Hewett, Clark Co., Wis., died at the Neillsville Hospital on March 15, 1918.

Mr. Ritchie was born on a farm near Lake Mills, Jefferson Co., Wis., Sept. 2, 1855. He came with his parents to Clark County when about fourteen years old and has made this his home ever since. His father, Stephen Ritchie, located on a farm in what is called the Huntley neighborhood in the town of Weston. His father and mother died several years since. They came from the town of Madrid, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y.

William Ritchie was married to Agnes Marshall, Dec. 25, 1880. His first wife came from St. Lawrence Co., N.Y. to this union was born Robert Ritchie, now of Independence, Iowa. This son was here and attended his father during the last days of his illness. Robert graduated at the Neillsville High School and is now a traveling salesman in Iowa. The first wife died about thirty years ago. Mr. Ritchie married for a second time to Flora Wood, who, with a son Ervin, about 12 years old, survive him.

The funeral occurred at the Congregational Church in this city last Monday and was attended by a large circle of friends, Rev. Geo. W. Longenecker officiating. Among those present were two cousins, John and Andrew Short of Washburn, in this county.

Mr. Ritchie was a man of honorable character and high standing. This was attested by the fact that he was chosen many times as chairman of his town. He was the chairman of the town of Hewett when he died.
