Wasserburger, Charles (26 SEP 1855 - 6 SEP 1919)
Charles Wasserburger, one of Neillsville's oldest residents, died at Eau Claire hospital Saturday, Sept. 6, 1919. He would have been 64 years old, had he lived till Sept. 26th. Deceased was born at Newberg, Wis. His father died when he was 14 years of age. In 1874 he was married to Mary Zelle of Arcadia and they came to Clark County, Wis. to live, settling on a farm near Sidney. Eight years later they moved to Neillsville and ran a hotel and boarding house for many years, later engaging in the mercantile business. Mr. Wasserburger was friendly and accommodating, and had a host of friends. He was a good husband and father, bringing his family up to be industrious and helpful members of the community.
He is survived by his wife and eight children: Kate, Henry, Tillie, Clara, Leo and Frank at home; Mrs. Charles Sherman at Wausau; Mrs. Stanley Battersby of Washburn; Lulu died in infancy and Charles was killed in action in France.
Deceased leaves four brothers: Herman of Marshfield; Richard of Minneapolis; Henry of this city; Jacob of Montrose, Neb.; also one sister, Mrs. Kate Zimmerman of St. Helena, Neb.
The funeral was held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
