Trnka, Dr. Edward D. (Note: This published biography should have read, "Edward M. Trnka")

Dr. Edward D. Trnka, Chiropractor, was born in New Prague, Minn., received his degree from the Minnesota Chiropractic college in 1938 and opened his first office in Loyal, Clark County, Wis., the same year. This office was located on the second floor if what was then the Richardson Building. Three years later he moved to his present location at 217 Main St.

The basic chiropractic science is the system, or practice, of adjusting the joints, especially of the spine, by hand for the curing of disease. A valuable tool used by the chiropractor to pinpoint the source of pain is the X-ray machine. Dr. Trnka purchased his first X-ray two year after he began his practice. The one he uses today is his third.

He was president of the Wisconsin Chiropractic Basic Research in 1949, has been a member of the City Council in Loyal and was on the Loyal Public Library Board for several years. He was chairman of a committee to put on Loyal Days and also chaired a committee, which presented a talent show in Loyal around 1939. Dr. Trnka is a member of the International Who's Who.

Shortly after moving to Loyal, Dr. Trnka met Miss Arleen Erickson, who taught English and Music at Loyal High School. They were married in 1940. Mr. Trnka gave up teaching after their marriage but still gives private piano and organ lessons.

The Trnkas have four children, Kathryn, Ruth, John, and Kenneth.

Could the year be wrong in this article?  He is reported to have graduated in 1938, and I thought he did not move to Loyal until he set up his practice after graduation.

(article on Loyal Public Library - excerpt)

"The treasury was improved in 1921 by the R. N. A. giving an entertainment: Harry Haslett and Harry Moore arranging a baseball game. In 1937 Dr. E. W. Trnka directed a play and in 1940 Mrs. Gwin did likewise. Funds were solicited from time to time. In 1925 a Christmas tree was set up in the telephone office where 71 books and $23 were collected. The Towns of Sherman, Beaver and Loyal, as well as the village, contributed."

Thanks for the information. My sister said she'd find a picture to send you. The family came from Bohemia in 1862. Czechlaslovakia did not exist until after WW1 when the three countries of Bohemia, Slovakia, and Moravia were combined into one with the name of Czechlaslovakia----Ruth Trnka
