Merrill, Charles (6 Mar 1835 - 24 Apr 1905)

The death of Charles Merrill occurred at his home in the village of Loyal, Clark County, Wis., April 24, 1905.

The deceased was born in Norwich, Canada, march 6, 1835, and came to Wisconsin with his parents in the fall of 1846, and located in the town of Herman, Dodge, Co., Wis., where he grew to manhood. In 1861 he enlisted in the army for one term, at the close of the war in 1867 he came to the town of Loyal, Clark County, where he settled on a homestead and remained until about five years ago, when he moved to this village where he resided until the time of his death.

Mr. Merrill has always been a loyal and faithful member of the M. E. Church, and a law-abiding citizen as well as a faithful husband and father. He leaves to mourn his wife, son, daughter and three grandchildren of this village.

At the time of his death Charley was Chaplain of Col., C. R. Gill Post No. 236, Dept of Wis. His comrades of the Post and the Ladies' Relief Corps attended in a body, the comrades acting as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Hartford of Antigo, a sister of the deceased, attended the funeral.

The funeral took place Wednesday morning April 26th, conducted by Rev. J. A. Hill at the M. E. Church.

The remains were laid to rest in the M. E. Cemetery.
