Stella Soborowicz

Stella Soborowicz, age 90, of Thorp, died at Oakbrook Nursing and Rehab. in Thorp, on Tuesday, October 23, 2001.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2001 at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Father John Puerner officiated and burial followed in the Old St. Hedwig’s Cemetery. Her grandsons served as pallbearers. Visitation was held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Stella Kaliszewski was born on March 4, 1911 in the Town of Thorp to Steve and Mary (Ruet) Kaliszewski. On July 1, 1930, she was united in marriage to Frank Soborowicz at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church. They farmed and Stella worked at Cliff’s Dry Cleaning in Thorp, she also worked a short time in Illinois. After they retired and sold the farm in 1977, they moved to Withee before finally settling in Thorp in 1980. Her husband died on January 24, 1984. Stella continued to live in her home until 1991, at which time she moved to an apartment near Courtesy Ford. In 1993, she moved to Morgan Plaza and resided there until entering the nursing home in 1999.

Stella was a member of St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its P.C.C.W., and was a former Assessor for the Town of Thorp. She had many interests, but especially loved macramé, sewing and making afghans.

She is survived by two daughters: Stephanie (Ben) Dobrzynski of Thorp; Florence of Own; one son: Frank (Marlene) of Wisconsin Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Archie, three sisters and two brothers.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
