Hallock, Norman (8 OCT 1832 - 19 DEC 1910)

Norman Stevenson Hallock was born in Brockville, Canada, Oct. 8, 1832. The early years of his life were spent here with his parents. In young manhood he came to Jackson Co., Wis. From Jackson Co. he made the trip over wagon trails, two with ox teams and one with horses, to Colorado. About five years of his life were spent in Colorado and other parts of the state.

In his thirty-third years, march 15, 1865, he was united in marriage to Amanda Arnold of Jackson County. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom, with the widow, survive their father.

Norman Hallock came to Clark County, Wis. in 1867 and purchased a farm in the Windfall settlement, afterward called Mapleworks, and later Granton. Upon this farm and one upon an adjoining section he lived almost half a century. He moved to Loyal in 1908.

In 1873, with his wife, he became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and to his faith remained true until death claimed him. His was a life of honesty, uprightness and unselfishness. Family, friend and stranger were alike happy under his roof. Not a tinge of selfishness marred his noble character.

Dec. 19th at 9:30 a.m., like a weary soldier he fell asleep without a struggle. He was taken to the Windfall Cemetery, Granton, and laid to rest beside his two children and his father and mother. Here under the branches of a great pine tree he rests, awaiting the call of the Life giver.
