Mack, Mariah (25 DEC 1824 - 1 Sep 1913)

On Monday afternoon, Sept. 1, 1913, at half past two, Mrs. Erastus Mack died of old age at the home of her son Nicholas in the town of Loyal, Clark County, Wis., at the age of eighty-eight years.

Mariah Hughes was born in Kent, England on Dec. 25, 1824. She moved with her parents to Ontario, Canada in 1832, and was united in marriage to Erastus Mack in 1844. Thirteen children were born to this union. The five living are Mrs. Elizabeth Hilton of Oakland, Cal., Nicholas of Loyal, Eli of Sandpoint, Idaho, Addie Corzett of Bradgate, Iowa, Leslie of Glendive, Mont. She left 33 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

The deceased was one of the oldest residents of Loyal, living here over fifty-five years. About forty years ago she joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church and remained faithful until death.

After a long, busy and useful life she died as she lived, honored and trusted and loved.

Our little village and its hospitable people ever held a warm corner in her heart. It was here the best days of her life were spent but for several years she has not been able to leave the house due to old age.

The funeral services were held at the M. E. Church yesterday at two o'clock and the remains buried in the Loyal Cemetery.
