Klaehn, Karl W. (28 JUL 1842 - 17 MAY 1914)

Mr. Karl William Klaehn suddenly died last Sunday evening at about 6:30 o'clock. He was in the pasture milking his cow when he began to feel ill, leaving the cow tied up, he started for the house but did not get very far before he fell over and died. The cause of his death is given as chronic endocarditis.

Deceased was born in Paserwald, Pommern, Germany, July 28, 1842, and he was married in that country to Wilhelmina Ratzburg in 1867. They were blessed with four children, one daughter of which is dead. In 1868 they came to America and settled in Dodge Co., where they lived two years. In 1870 they came to Clark County, Wis. and made a home in the neighborhood of Loyal, as one of its first settlers. In 1882 he first wife died. He was married again in 1883 to Wilhelmina Blodew and was blessed with six children, of which one died some years ago. He reached the age of 71 years, 9 months and 19 days.

The death of Mr. Klaehn is indeed a hard blow for the family and the entire community. Having sold his farm near Loyal a few months ago, he moved to our village and therefore has taken life easy for just a little while. He leaves a wife and eight children who mourn the death of a good husband and father. Besides these he leaves many other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, Rev. E. Kemena officiating.
