Devlin, James (1828 - 30 May 1914)

James Devlin, a resident of this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) the past 12 years, died suddenly at his home last Saturday. His death was mostly due to old age, and was sick only a very short time.

Deceased was born in Ireland in 1828 and came to America in 1848. He was married to Miss Anna Farley in 1863, who died in 1875. He was again married in 1877 to a sister of his first wife, Miss Ellen Farley. He came to Loyal with his family 12 years ago, previous to which time he was a very prosperous farmer in Dodge County.

He was a kind hearted generous man and lived a life that made his many friends. He was blessed with 4 children by his first wife and 9 by his second wife. He is survived by a wife and 7 children, 2 dying before him. The children are: Mrs. Joseph Imlay of Forest City, Iowa, John A. Devlin of Lowell, Wis., James F. Devlin of Escanaba, Mich., Miss Dora, Mrs. George Jarvis and Madeline of Spooner, Wis., Anna and Colie died several years ago.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at nine o'clock from St. Balthasar's Catholic Church, Rev. Joseph Stenz officiating.
