Obituary of William Syth

WILLIAM SYTH PASSES AWAY

William Syth, son of John and Isabel Syth, was born April 10, 1873 in the town of Eaton and passed away at his home 3 1/2 miles southeast of Greenwood, Wednesday evening, October 20, 1938 of a heart attack.

Mrs. Syth had gone to Loyal with neighbors to procure medicine for him, and on her return about 9:30 P.M. found him lying dead on the floor.

Death apparently had occured but a short time before she arrived home as he had turned on the yard light, expecting her home. His nose was broken in the fall. The only one in the house at the time of his death was his grandson, Dale Syth, who makes his home with them and he was asleep.

Although complaining of pains in his stomach for a few days, he had been working about the farm all that day in preparation for an auction which was to be held Saturday. On Tuesday he had sold his farm to Lindner Bros. and planned to move to Greenwood in the near future.

Mr. Syth was united in marriage to Miss Pearl Boon on June 6, 1900. To this union were born four children, two daughters, Mrs. Carl Stabnow, (Lila) of Greenwood, Lucille of Milwaukee and two sons, Vern of Greenwood and James Nelson, who died June 5, 1938 from burns received when his head came in contact with a 11,000 volt transmission line at Chilli.

Mr. and Mrs. Syth have resided in this vicinity all their lives except for three years spent in Montana.

Mr. Syth is survived by his wife and three children, one brother, Rob of Greenwood and 6 grandchildren.

He was a devoted husband and father and had many friends and was loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted at the home at 1:30 P.M, Sunday, October 23 and at the Methodist Church at 2:00 o'clock. He was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. C. R. Gaylord Officiated. At the services at the home Mmes. Hert Schwarze and Louis Behrens, accompanied by Mrs. John Meng, sang "Abide With Me" and at the church sant "Face to Face" and "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me".

The pallbearers were Simon Schwarze, Fee Christie, Sidney Smith, and Henry Mathison of Greenwood and John Loppnow and George Tucker of Loyal.

Those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Wm. Tucker, Mrs. Fred Heiking, Mrs. Alice Killion and Mrs. George Scherer Jr.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Schmoll of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Pederson of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Halbert of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hubert of Owen, Miss Gertrude McConnel of Minneapolis, Miss Lucille Syth and Herbert Koenig of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Boon and Family, Mr. and Mrs. Len Boon and Family and Walter Boon of Christie.

Dearest Father, thou hast left us And our loss we deeply feel, But 'tis God that has befeft us, He can all our sorrows heal. Yet again we hope to meet thee When the day of life is fled, When in Heaven with joy to greet thee Where no farewell tear is had.
