Smith, Peter C. (24 May 1892 - 4 May 1918)

It is officially reported that Peter C. Smith of Co. B, 503 Engineers Battalion, died of meningitis, following mastoiditis, May 4, 1918.

Peter Smith was born May 24, 1892, in the town of Hull, Marathon, Co., Wis., where he has always made his home. He was drawn into the army with the first selective draft Sept. 19, 1917, and has been in France since early in December. At the time of entering the army he was running his mother's farm east of Colby, Wis., which charge he had since the death of his brother, John, in Oct. 1916.

He leaves to mourn his his mother, Mrs. Minnie Smith, and brother, Paul, both of Netherhill, Sask., Canada, and five sisters, Mrs. Ray Lafee, also of Netherhill, Mrs. Edward Purkis of Oak Park, Ill., Mrs. Charles Herzog of Sheboygan, Mrs. Oscar Stanisch and Miss Harriet of Colby.

He was one of our finest specimens of young manhood and his early death is deeply regretted by all who knew him.
