Union services were to have been held in the Methodist church to-day, but owing to the illness of Revs. W. T. Hendren and J. E. Webster, we understand none will be held

Henry Myers returned from the woods with a splendid pair of deer horns, yesterday, and he flies all to pieces if asked where he bought them. He claims to have slaughtered the animal that wor them.

While in attendance at the meeting of the county board, Wm. Irvin, of the town of Beaver, lost a chattel mortgage give by J. D. Allen to F. B. Bassett. The finder will confer a favor by leaving the same at this office. E. H. Markey now occupies one of the finest and best furnished residences in our city. Verily, Ed as contributed his share to the many improvements made in this city during the season just closed.

Ernest Leidholdt will give a Thanksgiving dance at Fireman’s Hall this evening. All are invited.

"From Greenwood"

After a rest of two weeks I will try again to furnish a few items to your paper. It is not an easy tak to write for the press, especially in a case where there is a large family to look after and not much flour in the house. It tends to concentrate a man’s mind on that subject a little too much to enable him to contribute a fast amount of brilliant thought or interesting news to the readers of a newspaper. Our sleighing is just gritty enough to polish up the sleights in good shape for better, but what we have has made business liven up considerably. Jim Bryden too a ride last Saturday and was obliged to bring his cutter home in a sack. His favorite "Billy" horse did not appreciate the condition of the roads through the woods and made things lively for a while. Pat Sheehan started a crew into the wood this morning on the Eau Claire. The stage from this place to Withee made a through trip to-day, being the first for about three weeks. The prize dance to be given at Vate’s Hall, in this village, next Thursday evening, is a sure thing. Mr. Vates, having disposed of all his tickets. Some lucky man will have a cheap horse next week. There was a raffle at Dr. Thomas’ Drug Stroe this evening. Mr. H. M.Root became the winner of a full set of Dicken’s works, well bound, for the small sum of one dollar, by a score of 79 out of a possible 100 on a wheel of fortune. Mr. M. B. Warner started a crew into camp a few miles down the river on the wet side last Saturday.
