Foster, Amos W. (28 Jan 1861 - JUN 1926)

Amos Wm. Foster, whose sudden death was chronicled in the Phonograph last week, was laid to rest in the Colby Catholic Cemetery last Friday, June 18th. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, Rev. Lachnit officiating. The body was escorted to the church by the Catholic Order of Foresters.

The deceased was born in Olmsted, Minn., Jan. 28, 1861, thus reaching the age of 65 years, 11 months and 17 days. He came to this locality in 1878 and has been engaged in farming ever since. He was married to Marie O'Neill of Marshfield, Wis., Nov. 18, 1882. This union was blessed with seven children who survive him, namely: Alvin Foster, Colby, Wis., Mrs. Steve Price, Milan, Wis., Walter C. Foster, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Joe Will, Colby, Wis., Mrs. Elmore Foster, Rhinelander, Wis., Mrs. Jack Hobelsberger, Park Falls, Wis., Mrs. P. J. Ruby, Owen, Wis.

Besides his life partner and children, his departure to the distant shore is mourned by the following brothers and sisters: S. E. , Weaver, Minn., E. J. Foster, Detroit, Mich., Julius Foster, State of Wash. Also twenty-one grandchildren.

Relatives from out of town here for the funeral were: S. E. Foster, E. V. Foster, Weaver, Minn., Thomas and Frank O'Neill, P. H. McNulty, Miss Ruth O'Neill, George Zimmer and son, Harold, Marshfield, Wis., and W. F. O'Connor and wife, Marshfield, Wis.

The deceased was one of our hardy pioneers who came here when this was still a vast wilderness and built a fine farm. He was a man of generous impulses and never forgot the hospitable ways of the pioneer. He lived nobly and his life work was well done.

Amos Foster was my great grand father. It's great to read these articles. Any other distant relatives out there?
