Bob Hemphill, while attempting drive logs over on the East Fork, at week, took a "header" into the water, but "bobbed up serenely" a moment after and swam to shore. Johnnie Malcolm a former Neillsville boy is now circulating in the vicinity of Visalia, Cal. In a recent letter to a friend, in this city, he says: "California is not what it is cracked up to be. It is a great big fraud, and my advice to any one who is making a living in the east, is to stay there and let well enough alone. The country is full to overflowing of young men who seem to have nothing to do and as for tramps there is no end of them."
