J. Hammel and wife with Mrs. G. Baruch, drove to Hogan last Monday, and surprised Mr. Baruch with a visit. Mr. Baruch attends to the business end of the firm at Hogan and is a sort of exile in that wooden county.

Miss Edna Field, sister of Conductor Field, of Chicago, Miss Bede Mason of Sparta, Mrs. J. R. and Miss Grace Sechler, of Sechlerville, have been visiting with Mrs. Jessie Lowe the past week. Miss Field will start for Garden Valley to-morrow to visit friends.

A NEW DEAL: J. Hammel & Co. have decided to adopt the cash principle in trade, and have closed their books. All parties indebted to them are requested to call and settle at once so that some arrangements can be made for payment. They will close out their goods at about cost, so parties who wish bargains should call at once. After the first of August the motto, cash down, will be strictly adhered to.

JUNCTION CACKLLINGS: Mrs. Robert Gill is visiting friends here this week.

R. V. Bullis is kept busy putting on the Eureka Coupling. They are fine.

Mrs. S. M. Macomber Sundayed with her sister Mrs. Whitcomb at Neillsville.

The school house is to be finished and Julian Bone and A. W. Hubbell are the lucky contractors.

Will Krouss visited O. A. Rusco’s family over Sunday and returned to Neillsville as happy as usual.

Fred Timmerman returned from St. Paul and started yesterday for Herion, Southwest Minnesota where he will be employed as operator.

Clarence Macomber has returned from an extended visit to friends at Augusta and by the way he took in the circus while absent. Wonder if he saw the whale.

Joseph Mattee’s residence narrowly escaped destruction by forest fires the first of the week which has reached within two rods of the dwelling. The activeness of about fifty of our citizens is what saved it.

A. R. Buckman contemplates making an extended visit to friends at Dexterville, Scranton, Stevens Point, and Waupaca, soon. His mother who resides at the latter place is quite feeble and thus the cause of this proposed trip.

Lewis and Jacob Hanson, of Menomonie, visited their parents here the first of the present week. Lewis likes this place very much and says he will move his family down here in the near future.
