The snow is about fourteen inches steep in the woods and the present cold snap has given the lumbermen a good bottom for the logging roads.

Albert Ludington has taken a position at the new depot and expects soon to be able to handle telegraphic dispatches with the best of them.

Miss Madge Darling, who has been at school at Winona, Minn.., the past several months is at home spending the holidays. She will return Monday.

Miss May Penny, the lady-like dinning room girl at the Merchants, was the recipient of a fine gold watch and chain as a Christmas gift from a Milwaukee friend.

John Paulus says it takes two cords of wood per day to run the O’Neill House, and he proposes to keep his guests warm and comfortable under all circumstances. The O’Neill House table has a reputation among traveling men of being one of the best in the State.

We visited Agent Whitcomb in his new quarters at the depot. Tuesday. He is as proud as a young mother with her first babe, over the elegant office the company has fitted up for him. It looks business like to see the cars coming into town, and our people are much rejoiced thereat. The station at Hardscrabble, west of the river, is still used for shipping stock and staves, and the train stops there to take on cars or leave them. At Podunck the train only stops occasionally to leave or take coal cars. Ira Niles has charge of the station there.
