Vern Gardner LOYAL- Vern Allen Gardner, 66, of 402 W. Mill St., Loyal, died at Bethel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Arpin at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 1996. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at loyal Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Dekker officiating. Burial will be in Loyal City Cemetery. He was born May 25, 1930 in the town of Beaver to Floyd and Margaret (Zuege) Gardner. He grew up on his family’s farm and graduated from Loyal High School. He married Noreen Tucker on September 4, 1948, at his in-laws home in the Town of Eaton. He started farming in April 1949 on his in-laws farm until he retired in the fall of 1989 and moved to Loyal. He worked temporarily for the city of Loyal and the Loyal School district. He served on the Farm and Home Administration Board, Clark County Board, Loyal School Board and was the town of Eaton assessor. He was a member of the Loyal United Methodist Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and camping. He entered the nursing home in November 1995 and resided there until his death. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Wendy (Bruce) Miller of Stevens Point and Kathy (Mark) Smith of Springfield, Virginia; two sons, Roderick "Bucky" (Barbara Knack) of Loyal and Gary (Sandra) of Woodstock, Illinois; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Lucille Sommers of Curtis, Lorea (Harold) Kollmansberger of Loyal and Velma (Elmer) Gotter of Loyal. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Ernst Hinkelman; a daughter, Peggy Gardner; and a brother, Harold Gardner.
