Zimmerman, Lena (17 Feb 1851 - 21 NOV 1914)

Mrs. Lena Uecker Zimmermann, the subject of this sketch, was born on Feb. 17, 1851, in Pommerania, Germany, where she spent the days of her youth. She was there joined in marriage with Herman Zimmerman. A few years later they immigrated to America, and settled in Jefferson, Wis. Three or four years later the family moved to Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. and lived on a farm a number of years. About twenty years ago the Zimmermanns moved to Garden Valley, settling on a farm where they again built up a beautiful home. Mr. Zimmermann died in 1901, and Mrs. Zimmermann kept charge of the farm until about six years ago. The rest of her life she spent at the homes of her children, yet most of the time staying with her son Frank, for whom she kept house, until about a year ago ill health compelled her to give up the work. She began to fail and after a few months of much suffering, passed away last Saturday, the 21st of November 1914, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gower.

She is survived by six sorrowing children: Robert of Fairchild; Mrs. Martha Terrell of the town of Mentor; Frank, Mrs. Louise Giloy, and Reinhard of Garden Valley. Two of her sons, Edward and Albert, preceded her in death. She attained the age of 63 years, 9 months and 4 days. Services were held in the Presbyterian Church at Alma Center last Monday, Rev. Schmid officiating, and interment was in the family lot in the Alma Center Cemetery.
