Hedemarks celebrate 71 married years

If anyone has been married a long time, it’s Frank and Olga Hedemark, of Neillsville, Wis. They celebrated their 71st anniversary together on Thursday, September 22. A celebration was held Sunday, September 25, at Willard, at the home of JoAnn (Olga Hedemark’s niece) and Tom Zwaschka.

Frank age 95, was born in Chicago and met Olga, age 93, at Stewart Horner Manufacturing Company in Chicago. She is originally from Willard. They were married in Chicago in 1934.

They moved to Greenwood in 1945 and farmed for two years before returning to Chicago where Frank became employed with Standard Coil Products in 1947.

Frank and Olga moved once again in 1956, this time to Toronto, Canada, where Frank helped open and worked for another Standard Coil Plant. He worked in Canada for 17 years before retiring in 1972.

After retiring from Standard Coil Products, Hedemarks relocated to Rock Dam; then they came to Neillsville in 1988 to stay.

Frank calls himself and Olga, ‘gypsies" since they have traveled a lot. They have been avid golfers, bowlers and enjoyed square dancing.

The secret to their long marriage is "being active and doing things together," said Frank, who at 95, still plays golf.

"Time’s gone fast," said Frank, "but we’ve really enjoyed life."
