Hamann, William (OCT 1862 - JUN 1900)

William Hamann, who death we mentioned last week, was born in the town of Wein, Marathon Co., Wis., in October 1862; he was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Eggebrecht, Dec. 2nd, 1890; five children resulted from this union, four of whom preceded their father, and the youngest died the day following the death of its father and they were buried in the same casket, the little one reposing in its father’s arms.

The funeral was held from St. Johannes’ Church in the town of Wein, and was largely attended, Rev. Heidelberger officiating. While on the way from the house to the church the funeral cortege passed the home of the parents of the deceased, when the aged mother, who was unable to go to the church and had not seen her son for some time previous to his death, came out and begged for a last look upon the face of her son, accordingly the procession stopped, the coffin was opened and the mother permitted to take a parting look at the face of the son she had loved so well. The scene was a sad one indeed.

Will Hamann was a man highly respected by all who knew him. He was born and brought up in the town of Wein, but since his marriage had made his home in the town of Frankfort, Marathon Co. His death is a sad one from the fact that his wife is left alone. The children all being with their father on the other side of the divide. Certain it is that she will have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community.
