Davis, Elizabeth (2 SEP 1815 - 24 APR 1901)

Died, at the home of her son, S.J. Davis, in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., the early morning of Wednesday, April 24th, 1901, of general debility consequent upon old age, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, in the 86th year of her age. The funeral will be held from the M.E. Church, tomorrow (Friday) at 11 o’clock a.m.

Elizabeth Barnes was born at Blairsville, Pa., Sept. 2nd, 1815; she was united in marriage with John T. Davis, May 5th, 1834, and with her husband a family came to Wisconsin in 1850. Her husband died in 1852. In 1882 she came to Colby and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hyatt Hutton, in the town of Hull, until her son S.J. Davis moved to the town, since when she has divided her time between them.

Mrs. Davis was the mother of four children, two sons and two daughters. One son, Stephen B., was a soldier in the war of the rebellion, and died in Andersonville prison. One daughter also died. One son, S.J. Davis, one daughter, Mrs. Hyatt Hutton, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive her. There is also one surviving brother, Stephen G. Barnes, editor of the Record, Springdale, Pa., who was present at the funeral, Friday, but departed for him, Saturday.
