Davel, Albert (31 Oct. 1874 - 1969)
Loyal - Albert Davel, 94, of Loyal, long prominent in business and civic affairs of this community, died of complications at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.
The Very Rev. Norbert E. King, pastor, will officiate at funeral services at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at Loyal. Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery.
Visitations may be made at the Roycraft-Myre Funeral Home beginning at noon Friday. A general rosary service will be held there at 8:30 p.m. Friday and it will be followed by the Knights of Columbus rosary at 9 p.m.
Mr. Davel was born in Germany Oct. 31, 1874, and came to the United States as an infant with his parents. The family settled at Spencer where he received his education. At the age of 18 he moved to Loyal where he was married there Oct. 8, 1902, to Florence Baker. The couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 1968.
Mr. Davel established the Davel Store in Loyal in 1907 and continued its operations until 1947, when he sold the business to a son, Lawrence. The latter retired from the store in 1968.
A member of the Loyal School Board for 40 years. Mr. Davel also was a long time active member of the Loyal Volunteer Fire Department. In recent years he held honorary membership in the department. He belonged to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and held membership in the Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Lawrence and Paul, both of Loyal; Edward Davel, Lombard, Ill.; eight daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Nolan and Mrs. Jayne Simpson, both of Minneapolis; Mrs. Kathryn Babb, Orlando, Fla.; Mrs. Madeline Krawczyk, Pulaski; Mrs. Marie Canney, Algoma; Mrs. Gertrude Phair, Oshkosh; Mrs. Dorothy Schmook, Madison; Miss Martha Davel, Chicago, Ill.; 38 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
