Davis, Jasper H. (7 March 1847 - 29 Jan. 1935)

Jasper H. Davis, an aged resident of the Town of Levis passed away at his home early Tuesday morning, Jan. 29.

Mr. Davis was born near Indianapolis, Ind., March 7, 1847, and was 87 years, 10 months and 2 days old at the time of his death.

When he was eight years of age he came with his family to Crawford County, Wis., and lived there until 1912. At that time he went to Oklahoma, where he lived in Iowa and Minnesota several years, coming back to Crawford County, setting on a farm in Levis.

Mr. Davis was married in Crawford County, Oct. 27, 1967, to Mary Jane Slain, who survives him. He leaves also an adopted son, John Davis, who makes his home with his foster parents. Mr. Davis was highly respected by all who came to know him. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock p.m. Thursday at Schiller Funeral Home, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

Tribute to Miss Hammond

The following letter from O. J. Thompson, former County Superintendent of Schools will be appreciated by the many students who took teachers training at Neillsville High School under Miss Ellen Hammond.

"Madison, Wis., - Jan. 25, 1935

Dear Mr. Crothers,

I am herewith enclosing check to cover my subscription up to Jan., 1936.

Just before Christmas we were delighted to have Miss Hammond spent the evening with us. As I grow older, I more and more appreciated the wonderful influence on her teaching and I feel that fortunate indeed where the youngsters who sat at her feet. The influence of this good woman’s teaching will be felt for many years in Clark County.

Mrs. Thompson and myself wish you many more years of community service.
