Smrecek, Daniel R. (28 APR 1927 - 6 JAN 2006)

Daniel R. Smrecek, 78, Loyal, died on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006 , in Cadott. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Burial was in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Willard. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Kyle Hayes, Lucas Hayes, Douglas Tenut, Eric Smrecek, Marcus Smrecek, and Nicholas Smrecek.

Daniel Raymond Smrecek was born on April 28, 1927, in Willard, to John and Eva (nee Petka) Smrecek. He was raised on the family farm and received his education at North Mound School. After completing his education, he continued to farm with his parents on the family farm. He married Marian Podrovitz on Nov. 26, 1949, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. They lived and farmed on his family farm until 1952, at which time they moved to a farm north of Mead Lake. They farmed there until 1958, and then bought a farm on Twenty-Six Road, south of Loyal. He semi-retired in 1988, and moved into Loyal, but continued to help his son, Dale, on the farm. He resided in Loyal until the time of his death. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, the K.S.K.J. Lodge, and had many interests including hunting, fishing, carpentry work, picking wild berries and going to the casino.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Marian, Loyal; his children, David Smrecek, Waukesha, Diane (Ray) Tenut, Big Lake, Minn., Daniel G. "Smack" Smrecek, Loyal, Dale (Penny) Smrecek, Greenwood, Dawn "Jennifer" (Kevin) Bennett, Cadott; nine grandchildren; three brothers, John (Florence) Smrecek, Marshfield, Ralph (Betty) Smrecek, Greenwood and Tom (Connie) Smrecek, Waconia, Minn.; and five sisters, Josephine Hansen, Minneapolis, Minn. Wilma Flaherty, Tempe, Ariz., Marge Fildes, Minneapolis, Minn., Thersa (Howard) Fries, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mary Ann (Charles) Brinkman, Marshfield.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter-in-law, Barb Smrecek.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
