Purgett, Charles Henry (30 Sept. 1889 - 4 Jan. 1967)

Funeral services for Charles Purgett, 67, were conducted at two o’clock Saturday afternoon, Jan. 7, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home. Rev. H. W. Luetkehoelter of Narareth Lutheran Church, Withee, officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers include Dr. Edward Sluzewski, Robert Sluzewski, Frank Kalsen, James Kalsen, Robert Friedenfels and Frank Friedenfels.

Mr. Purgett died at 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee following heart surgery.

The deceased was born in Watseka, Ill., on Sept. 30, 1889, and on March 17, 1917 came with his mother, the late Mrs. Eugene Purgett and the other children and the family, in Withee where they joined Mr. Purgett who had come here a week previous with the furniture and livestock. Mr. Purgett made his home in this community farming until 1955 when he and his family moved to Germantown, Wis. He was always interested in horses and had a string of riding horses at his home in Germantown.

He is survived by his wife, the former Florence Bergstrom, to whom he was married in 1925 in a wedding ceremony that took place at the Danish Lutheran Church in Withee. There are also two sons, Eugene, Thiensville; and Mahlon, Brookfield; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Ruby) Zimmerman, Germantown; Mrs. O. (Janet) Sauer, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Robert (Diane) Neitzel, Hartford; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Austin, Rochester, N. Y.; a brother, Ray, route 2, Owen and 20 grandchildren.
