Hoernke, Herman (20 April 1893 - 2 Aug. 1982)

Colby - Herman Hoernke, 89, Colby, died Monday at the Colonial House of Colby Nursing Home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Wien, with the Rev. Merlin Schlichting officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rux Funeral Home in Colby.

Mr. Hoernke was born April 20, 1893 in the Town of Frankfort to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hoernke Sr. He married the former Alvina Passehl April 18, 1917 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She died July 16, 1961.

He farmed in the Town of Frankfort until retiring in 1967, when he moved to Route 3, Marshfield. He lived there until entering the nursing home in 1980.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Lawrence, Colby; three daughters, Mrs. Viola Wiersig, Colby; Mrs. Laura Wachholz, Route 3, Marshfield; and Mrs. Robert (Ella) Behringer, Mazomanie; two brothers, Ernest Hoernke Jr.; Edgar, and Otto Hoernke, Cannon Falls, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Bertha) Leffel, Pickerel, and Mrs. Fred (Emma) Klumz, Marquette, Mich.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Pallbearers will be Ronald, David and Dale Hoernke, James Becker and Barry and Daniel Behringer.
