Even in bad news, there is room for optimism.

On Friday, M & H Chevrolet and Handel Motors received word that when their dealer agreement with General Motors expires in October, 2010, and will not be renewed.

However, for Mark Hoffman and Bruce Handel, the letter is not the end of the story but instead could be the first step in bringing both local GM dealers under one roof.

The two dealerships issued the following joint statement: “For generations, north-central Wisconsin has been served by two General Motors dealers in Medford. On Friday, Handel Motors and M & H Chevrolet received notice concerning GM’s restructuring efforts. The letter indicates part of the resulting plan is a planned reduction in the number of GM dealerships by October 2010. The two Medford GM dealers express their optimism toward a possible planned merger of the dealershi8ps which could result in the are being served by one GN dealership in Medford offering Chevrolet, Buick and GMC.”
