Rush, Samuel (19 June 1899 - 20 June 1969)

Samuel Rush, age 70, Merrillan, died Friday in Neillsville Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for three weeks.

Mr. Rush, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rush, was born in Merrillan, June 19, 1899, and was a lifetime resident of the community. He was a member of the Merrillan village board for more than 25 years the fire chief 20 years, served as building inspector, health officer, utility commissioner, and was employed as a village maintenance man for many years.

Mr. Rush operated a garage in Merrillan for a few years and was a partner in the Rush Well Drilling Company, first with his father, then his son, Ernest, and later with his brother, Roy. He retired from the business in 1962 because of ill health.

On June 19, 1926, he was united in marriage in Neillsville to Nina Wren, who survives. A son Irvin, died in 1968.

Other survivors include: Three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marion) Grew of Viroqua, Mrs. Roger (LaVearle) Carey and Mrs. John (Laura) Schudi both of Minneapolis; a son, Ernest, Beloit; a brother, Roy, of Black River Falls; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Esther) Buttke and Mrs. August (Iona) Buttke of Alma Center, Mrs. Inez Gaede of Black River Falls and Mrs. Robert (Emily) Hagerman of Pasedena, TX; and 13 grandchildren.

Services were held Monday from the Merrillan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan.
