Wendel, Catherine (7 MAY 1859 - 26 JUN 1936)

Mrs. Catherine Wendel, 77, a resident of the Town of Loyal for 45 years passed away Friday evening, June 26th at 6:45 o’clock.

Mrs. Wendel was ailing the last four years with heart trouble, but was able to be up at times, until last Tuesday, when she grew weaker and was finally called by her creator to eternal rest.

Catherine Maser was born at Jefferson, Wis., May 7, 1859, and was married to Geo. Wendel, November 9, 1881. Ten years of their married life was spent at Jefferson, from where they moved to Pelsdorf, town of Loyal on a farm where Mr. Wendel, passed away seven years ago.

She was the mother of eleven children, six preceding the mother, Mrs.. Wendel made her home with her son Frank on the homestead. Five children survive namely Frank, Joe, of Loyal, Catherine (Mrs. Paul Gravitter) Eaton; Francis (Mrs. Rudolph Gravitter0, Susan (Mrs. John Steger) of Marshfield, also nine grandchildren and one great grand child.

The deceased was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s parish, a social member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin and a member of the Altar Society.

Funeral services were held for her on Monday at 9 o’clock, at St. Anthony’s parish and conducted by Rev. A. J. Aurit, with burial following in the congregation’s cemetery.

Pall bearers were Frank Bauer, John Hubing, Thomas Froeba, Paul Bauer, John Elsinger and Nick Beaver. Honorary pall bearers were members of the Altar Society Anna Haas, Susan Wedl, Catherine Fackler, Mary Braun, Katherine Bauer and Anna Betzold.

Those who had charge of the flowers were Mrs. Thomas Froeba, Mrs. Paul Bauer, Mrs. Frank Klimmer, Mrs. Nick Beaver.

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. August Ganser, Fort Atkinson; Mr. Frank Wendel and Mrs. John Betzold, Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Gravitter and sonsArthur, Floyd and Harold; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gravitter and daughter, Florence, Mrs. Amelia Gravitter and Mrs. J. M. Steger of Marshfield.
