Joan Jean Colby, 78, Lakeside, Ariz., died on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006. Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 9, at Owens Mortuary, Show Low, Ariz.

Joan Jean Schoonover was born on Nov. 11, 1927, in Richland Center, to Buford and Alta (nee Holloway) Schoonover. She graduated from Richland Center High School and then entered a private cosmetology school in Madison. She met Eugene W. Colby in Loyal at the grocery store his father owned. They were married, raised their family in Loyal, and then retired to Arizona. She and her husband loved to travel and her hobby was painting.

Survivors include seven children, Jill Vanderkoof, Lakeside, Ariz., Jan Mastin, Caliente, Nev. Craig Colby, Mesa, Ariz., Carter Colby, Indianapolis, Ind., Carl Colby, Pell Lake, Clark Colby, Beloit, and Curt Colby, Beloit; one brother, Allen (Sharon) Schoonover, Loyal; 18 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
