McGinnis, Lillian Etta (16 July 1874 - 4 Aug. 1937)

Miss Lillian McGinnis, who spent her early life in Clark County, passed away at a hospital in Shorewood, near Milwaukee, August 4, 1937, aged 63 years and 19 days. She has been visiting her sisters at Green Bay and was there taken ill, and in order to receive special attention, was taken to Shorewood.

Lillian Etta, daughter of Peter and Julia McGinnis was born in the town of Sherwood in this county, July 16, 1874. She attended the country school and Neillsville high school and taught for some time in the rural schools of this county. More than thirty years ago she took up nursing which she followed up to within a few weeks of her death.

Miss McGinnis was a woman of a fine type of character, kindly and conscientious, and competent in her work. It is impossible to relate the good she did in the world in her professions, teacher and nurse.

She is survived by four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Louis Jorgensen, and Mrs. Ella Phillips, of Green Bay; Mrs. Louis Schaefer, Merrill; Mrs. Maggie Bruley, Ladysmith; Patrick McGinnis, Waukesha; Frank McGinnis, Portland, Oregon. She leaves also many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church in Neillsville, Saturday morning, Rev. Fr. Meier officiating, and burial taking place in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Six nephews, Ed. Short, Arthur Short, Philip Jorgensen, Robert Jorgensen, James Phillips and Earl McGinnis acted as pallbearers.

Those from away attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Jorgensen, Robert Jorgensen, Philip Jorgensen, Mary Lu Jorgensen, Mrs. Ella Phillips and James Phillips all of Green Bay; Mrs. Margaret Bruley, Mrs. Phil Griffin and Jane Griffin all of Ladysmith; P. J. McGinnis and Earl McGinnis of Waukesha and Miss Norman of St. Paul.
