Roth, Fred (19 NOV 1858 - 23 DEC 1916)

Fred Roth died at Medford, Monday, Dec. 23, 1916, of lobular pneumonia, aged 58 years, 1 month and 4 days.

His death is doubly sad as it was only fifteen days before that his wife was laid to rest. He returned to Medford shortly after her funeral, and it was known then that he had contracted a severe cold and was considered quite a sick man. He gradually became worse and pneumonia set in.

Fred Roth was born in the town of Herman, Sheboygan Co., Nov. 19, 1858; came to Colby at the age of 19 and engaged in the blacksmith business. He was married to Helen Grambort, May 16, 1880. Four children were born to them, W.F. of Riplinger; Edmund, deceased; Mrs. Paul Holmes and Mrs. Myron P. Graham of Chicago.

About 16 years ago the family moved to Stratford, and in company with his son Will he conducted a blacksmith shop. The business there was disposed of at the end of two years and they returned to Colby and built the blacksmith shop which they conducted until it was disposed of to Conrad Niggeman about four years ago. He and his wife moved to Medford shortly after selling out here.

He is survived by the three children above mentioned, four sisters, Mrs. John Voss of Kiel; Mrs. Ernst Kemmerer, Mrs. Aug. Domrow and Mrs. Sophia Rodinger of Sheboygan, all of whom were here to attend his funeral.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 26, 1916, from St. John’s Evangelical Church in this city, Rev. A. Peper, officiating. His remains were place beside those of his wife in Colby Cemetery.
