Haslbeck, Bertha (25 MAY 1916)

The marriage of Miss Bertha Haslbeck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vroble, First St. North, to Walter Popawake of Racine, took place at St. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church at nine o’clock Thursday morning, Rev. Wm. Reding officiating. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Helen Haslbeck of Chicago as maid of honor and the Misses Helen Topowski of Stevens Point and Edna Demmer of Kolze, Ill., were bridesmaids. Walter Luhn of Fond du Lac and Clement Kaudy were groomsmen. The bride was beautifully gowned in a dress of crepe meteor trimmed in pearls and satin striped marquisette, and carried a shower bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley. She wore a large pink picture hat to match her dress. The bridesmaids were gowned in blue taffeta dresses, with picture hats to match and carried large baskets of pink and white sweet peas, tied with pink ribbon. The groom and his attendants wore the conventional black. After the ceremony the bridal couple, together with a few guests, repaired to the home of the bride’s parents on First St. North, where a four course wedding breakfast was served, covers being laid for twenty-five.

Mr. and Mrs. Popawake left on the noon train for Fond du Lac where they will make their future home, and where a nice home has been furnished for their occupancy. The Leader joins with their many friends in extending congratulations. (Grand Rapids Leader)

Mrs. Frank Dankemeyer, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Joe Demmer, aunt of the bride, went down from here to attend the wedding.
