Herbert L. Laib

NEILLSVILLE

Herbert Laib died peacefully on July 18, 2006, at the Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was 88 years old.

A funeral service for Herbert will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, July 21, 2006, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville, Wis. Pastor James Mohr will officiate. Providing music will be Deon Spangler, organist.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to service time Friday at the church. Military rites will be accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Interment will be in the town of Seif cemetery at a later date.

The Gesche Funeral Home of Neillsville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Herbert Leonard Laib was born on Oct. 30, 1917, the son of Herbert and Clara (Regal) Laib in Chicago, where he attended school. He joined the military service and is a WWII veteran. When he returned home from the war he married Laverne Schwickrath on April 20, 1946, in Chicago. After they were married they moved to Wisconsin to fulfill his dream of becoming a farmer. They bought a farm. He continued his education by taking farming and electrician courses.

Herbert was a member of the American Legion as well as the VFW. He was a member of the United Church of Christ. He is the former town chairman for the town of Seif as well as the former town assessor. He also served on the Clark County Board.

His hobbies included gardening, fixing anything he could get his hands on, playing cards with his friends and family, reading the newspaper, hunting and being involved with politics.

He is survived by his children, Herbert (Linda) Laib of Waterford, Karlene (Tom) Wallace of Neillsville, Debbie (James) Drehfal of Waukesha and Jody (Darlene) Laib of Stafford, Texas; his grandchildren, Travis (Jennifer) Laib, Shane (Tammy) Herron, Clay (Denise) Herron, Joelle (Matthew) Schmitt, Johnelle (Ronnie) Leonard, Jessica Espinosa and John Laib; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren Laib, Colton, Rick, Brooke and Hailie Herron, Colin Herron and Hannah and Sarah Leonard. He is further survived by his sisters, Gladys Thude of Chicago and Marion (Stanley) Hansen of River Grove, Ill.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Laverne Laib; his parents, Herbert and Clara Laib; a brother, Walter Laib; and a granddaughter, Pamela Herron.
